Tomorrow morning between 8.30 and 10.40 am we will have the opportunity to witness a solar eclipse.  The peak of the event will be around 9.30 am.

Nichola, however, is advising the public to exercise extreme caution be taken when viewing the solar eclipse as looking directly at the sun, even for a few short seconds can burn the retina, causing irreversible damage and potential sight loss.

It is extremely important that the public know that they should not look directly at the sun and the best way to view the eclipse is on television.  You could make your own eclipse viewing card but from experience the event is missed in an effort to try and get the projection right.   Also DO NOT attempt to look at the sun with sunglasses on.

But most of all DON’T FORGET to enjoy a memorable and rare event in Irish astronomy.
